Waechtersbach Effect Glaze Cherry 4-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

Nice with great potential but some problems-keep reading.

I am on the fence with this dinnerware. I have been looking for a long time for dishes that were a nice, attractive white. These fit the bill. They are not the same sterile white that porcelain white dishes are, but they are a little whiter than the off-white that Pfaltzgraff calls white. So they’re bright, but creamy, and very attractive. They are modern with clean lines, but much less expensive than similar sets at classy cooking stores. However, there are some weird issues. I ordered 8 of these sets, and pieces do not match from set to set or even necessarily within sets. 5 dinner plates say Waechtersbach Fun Factory Made in Germany on the back, and 3 say just Waechtersbach Made in Spain, and my salad plates are 6 from Spain and 2 from Germany. I actually hate the Fun Factory label (kind of cheesy rather than classy), but THAT is not the issue. The size of the plates and the color are slightly different, both in thickness and in diameter. Dinnerware is great, but Amazon has wrong picture…

I love this Waechtersbach dinnerware, but Amazon shows a cereal bowl in the picture, and says in the description that the set includes the cereal bowl, but that is not true. The set includes a 8 1/2 inch soup plate, NOT a cereal bowl. Both picture and description are wrong! I also ordered some of the individual place settings, and they also have the soup plate, not the cereal bowl as pictured. So the dinnerware gets 5 stars, but Amazon gets 1 star for not having the correct picture and description.

Fantastic, with a caveat

I’ve had the Waechtersbach set pictured (purchased in a department store) for about a year now. I love the stunning yellow color, which should have been called sunflower yellow. I searched high and low for a latte cup with an elegant shape in a casual, vibrant-colored set of dishes, and this set fits the bill perfectly. They are also much lighter in weight than other stoneware. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it chips very easily in the dishwasher, so you have to be extra careful placing these dishes so they don’t knock against anything.
