Great value from a wonderful company I ordered this 28 piece Johnson Brothers/Franciscan dinnerware set from Barron’s through Amazon. When I received it in the mail it was securely wrapped up and everything was safe inside. And shipment was fast. A few weeks later, I received a hand-written note from Barron’s thanking me for the purchase! Here are some details: This is a 12 3/4 X 7 1/4 inch platter that is somewhere between rectangular and oval. It is sepia toned with acorn border. I don’t know whether every dish in a specific size has the same image, but mine is a picture of Broadway (NY) about a century ago. The backstamp calls it “Historic America II,” indicates safe in dishwasher and microwave, and says it is made in England. First, the good news….(see update) (Update): Since there is now an image, Amazon must have received a new shipment that is not made up of the ‘seconds’ it was shipping to customers last month. Perhaps the purchaser will be lucky enough to actually discern the image. (Original): Nicely packaged, inexpensive and made in England. Now, the Bad: It is unsurprising an image is not available. Very nice! I bought 3 of these…one for me and each of my sister-in-laws, since our last name is Marshall. I use it for salads, vegetables, you name it. One of my sister-in-laws uses it as a fruit bowl and its always on her counter. Who knows about the other one? Beautiful and high quality I purchased two sets of the Johnson Brothers Old Britain Castles 12-piece Holiday Dinnerware. It is beautiful and very nice quality. I actually was expecting a stoneware or earthenware product. But it is just the opposite. I was somewhat hesitant to purchase the set because it is described as pink and I really did not want pink. The color is more of what I would call a county red. I would recommend this set. It really is beautiful. Affordable compliment to the Johnson Brothers sets. For the price these are great. I have a Johnson Brothers set made in England and these don’t compare. They are not going to holdup as well, The patterns are not as clear. But they are affordable, dishwasher and microwave proof and I am not going to cry if my kids break a plate, so I can bring them out after Thanksgiving and celebrate a season rather than just bringing them out for one meal. Missing Specs in the description? I got suspicious when I noticed that other teapots have at least a capacity mentioned as to how many ounces of tea will they hold. So I called up Relacements,Ltd. (a dealer in Johnson Brothers china) to find out exactly what ARE the specs on this teapot. It’s 4 3/8″ high and it’s what they call a 5 cup teapot. A teacup has a capacity of 6 ounces,therefore this pot holds about 30 ounces of tea. I’ve ordered the 13 piece Willow tea set from them and am awaiting it’s arrival. These Johnson Brotheres china pieces have the ability to be freezer,dishwasher,and microwave safe; no such claims are mentioned by those other willow pattern pieces of china being sold on Amazon. Which could explain the HIGH rate of breakage among those pieces of china. I thought you fellow Amazon purchasers might like to know this. Beautiful China! My mother purchased this set for my wife and I for Christmas from Kohls. She ordered it online and the set arrived with 4 broken pieces….maybe Amazon packages it better. I love the fact that everything is Dishwasher, Freezer, and Microwave safe. The dishes seem very durable and the print is very nice. I love the different castle designs. Pretty but Broken The dishes are pretty but were poorly packaged and arrived broken. That was a big disappointment. The pattern looks good but even though these dishes say England on the bottom, a sticker on each item says “Made in China.” The marking on the bottom of the dishes just means that it is an English company. Unfortunately not packaged for shipping I read the reviews and knew the risk going in. As mentioned by nearly every other reviewer this set of dishes is not packaged for shipping. I don’t know why anyone would ship anything like this. Lucky for me only one saucer is broken. Beautiful set, but broken pieces Beautiful set, very poor packaging. As such, because of more than 4 broken pieces, I had to return the set. Now waiting for reimbursement. I have seen other comments about this set with similar content. Quite lovely and sturdy enough for everyday use I noticed off and online here with some other comments on Johnson Brothers products, people were not happy with the quality. I think at this price the quality is really quite good. No, they aren’t made in England anymore, but in today’s economy I have to be realistic, and if I want the real English stuff it’s hundreds of dollars. But this is a lovely and functional plate. Love them:) I really love these dishes (provided they come in one piece as noted by another reviewer, and YES Amazon is great about replacements). They’re perfect for a country decor and durable enough for everyday use including in the dishwasher. I’m afraid to run the heated dry though, because of the pattern, but there’s nothing saying it would be harmed at all – that’s just me, I prefer not to find out;) You’ll be happy with the purchase. Now made in China I have an extensive set of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village – all made in England. Recently my teapot slipped from my soapy hands and chipped in several places, so I bought this one to replace it. It’s okay and matches the cups and saucers well enough, but I don’t like it as well as my original teapot that had the words “Made in England” impressed on the bottom. It looks and feels a bit chunkier than the original. Although I am disappointed I will keep it and use it, but if this were to chip or break I probably would not replace it again. great item The teapot came in perfect. I love it. Friendly Village Turkey Platter This is a wonderful item that is gorgeous. It is very large and is colored to match the rest of the Friendly Village china set. I am very pleased with it.
