I had purchased 4 bowls from a local store years ago and wanted to get 4 more plus mugs. I was so happy to find them through Amazon. They had the best selection and price. They were a perfect match to the ones I had purchased years before. I can’t tell the difference. They last, are microwave and dishwasher safe. Elegant The Christmas Rose china is elegant and timeless. I’ve had a set of this holiday china for more than a decade and have always received wonderful comments on it. Spode rereleased this Victorian pattern a number of years ago, so it is an authentic classic pattern. It’s not cheap, but because of the design it has a bit more usefulness than many other “Christmas” china sets. I bring it out on Thanksgiving and use it throughout the winter holiday season. Lovely, versatile bowls I recently added the soup plates/bowls to my Botanic Garden collection and have been VERY pleased with them. They not only work beautifully for soups, pasta, and salads, but also function very well as small serving bowls. Each bowl will hold up to 16 ounces (if filled to the rim). The rim allows the bowl to be passed even if the contents are quite warm. I have not tried heating them in the oven, even to keep food warm, but Amazon’s product discription states that they are oven safe up to 340 degrees. Locally, I found the bowls available in the Convolvulus, Primula, Daisy, Fushia, Cyclamen, and Pansy patterns (have read that a Narcissus pattern is also available). Best Bowl Ever! These are the best bowls ever! Seriously! They’re so incredibly elegant–simply white with concentric white rings on the inside. Very shallow and perfect for everything from soup to pasta to curry to salad. I hardly even use my plates anymore–I just love these bowls so much that they seem to be perfect for every meal! The bowls are also very easy to care for, which is an added bonus (and important since I use them constantly!). The porcelain is very durable–never chips or cracks even with heavy use. And they go in the dishwasher too! If you buy these bowls and love them, you’ll also love the full dinnerware set–a modern classic for every home! Looks good but a bit shallow As with most things that win design “awards” practicality is often sacrificed. So be aware these bowls are indeed, very large and very shallow. Not made in England – Spode Soup Rimmed Bowls I did not know, until I received my rimmed soup bowls, that Spode is now being made outside of England. Much to my dismay, my ‘made in Malaysia’ bowls do not nestle together with my other bowls that were made in England. The bowls made in Malaysia are also of inferior quality, with flaws and unevenness in the pottery itself. They are slightly smaller than my original Spode bowls. I am very unhappy with my purchase, but did not know, at the time, to ask if they were made somewhere other than England. I will not make that mistake again. As soon as I can afford to, I will be replacing these inferior bowls with the real – made in England – soup bowls. Reputable sellers should include whether their Spode is made in England or elsewhere. High Quality Product I purchased these bowls to use for Spaghetti/Pasta, at first I was worried they might end up being too small but in reality they prove to be about the right size for a single serving, leaving you room for perhaps a second but otherwise plenty for the average person. The quality is unbeatable, true bone china with platinum bands just looks elegant. Obviously you have to treat them right as they are not microwave safe and should be hand washed if you ask me.
