Lenox Tin Can Alley 4 Degrees 12-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4

Nice design, but not very durable

We registered for and received this set of dishes as a wedding gift two years ago. After having to leave them in storage while we lived abroad, we returned home excited to finally get to use our beautiful set of dishes. Unfortunately, only three months in, we have two cracked bowls and are hesitant to use them for fear of cracking the other ones.

The dishes are supposed to be microwave and dishwasher safe (as per the bottom of the dishes). Since we haven’t dropped them or been overly heavy-handed with them, we can only conclude that they are not very durable, and probably should not be microwaved and/or used in the dishwasher.

We have contacted Lenox to find out if this is a common problem, and to hopefully receive some remedy for the problem. We could have gotten dishes from a faulty batch, but even still, we would not recommend these dishes to others.

Tin Can Alley

We received our set of Tin Can Alley dishes when we were married in 2006. We don’t have show dishes. We use our dishes. Like I tell all my pots, pans, knives, dishes, “Don’t come into my kitchen unless you plan to work.”

These have been great dishes. We microwaves them, we wash them in the dishwasher. They’ve been awesome dishes and look brand new. Zero chips. We’ve had one dish to crack, due to me putting the dish on a burner on high by mistake, which Lenox replaced for 50% of cost. The only other fault is that we purchased a few of the decorative Tin Can Alley releases like the Christmas editions. Over time the color has faded.

This is a good, robust set of dishes you can USE for the rest of your life.

We have had our plates for over 6 months now and are happy! they are lightweight, durable and attractive. The color is great because it isn’t stark (gray) white and not too creamy either. You can use them in any decor and mix and match with the other collections Lenox makes. I am also impressed that you don’t burn your hands after heating things up in the microwave! Another big plus since I have had to return other sets for that reason (even after saying microwave safe). They are a little pricey but i think you get what you pay for! These will last for years to come and we wont have to worry about any chipping like we had with out other set.
