Not made in England – Spode Soup Rimmed Bowls

I did not know, until I received my rimmed soup bowls, that Spode is now being made outside of England. Much to my dismay, my ‘made in Malaysia’ bowls do not nestle together with my other bowls that were made in England. The bowls made in Malaysia are also of inferior quality, with flaws and unevenness in the pottery itself. They are slightly smaller than my original Spode bowls. I am very unhappy with my purchase, but did not know, at the time, to ask if they were made somewhere other than England. I will not make that mistake again.

As soon as I can afford to, I will be replacing these inferior bowls with the real – made in England – soup bowls. Reputable sellers should include whether their Spode is made in England or elsewhere.

Versatile size bowl

I have been using my Christmas Tree Spode for over 25 years and every year I love it as much as the first time I set my Dinner table with it. I use it starting the month of December for breakfast. Our five kids grew up with it and 3 of them are waiting for me to pass my set on to them. It is Classic, warm, traditional and of course reminds me of England and the old fashioned trees that you think about during Victorian Times.

Great size for a first course soup or a luncheon pasta. I have four of them and they have all held up well over the years. We have really used the set quite a lot. This is also a nice size for a young child at the Christmas table because the bowls is easier for them to get their food onto their spoon.

A couple of years ago, we visited the Spode Pottery in England and they were in the process of shutting down the factory. They told us at the English factory that it was going to be made in China. Be sure and purchase from a reliable source…

I never expected to find this style bowl from Spode – they are great. i wll need to buy more.
